Course overview
Security+ is the vendor-neutral baseline for a security career and the certification most commonly written into job specifications and government tender requirements. SY0-701 shifted the emphasis noticeably toward operations and governance — Security Operations alone is 28% of the exam — so this programme spends proportionally more time on detection, response and risk management than older Security+ courses did. Every domain is taught with the hands-on component the performance-based questions demand.

Frequently asked
Is Security+ enough to get a security job?
It is enough to be shortlisted for entry-level SOC and security administration roles, and it satisfies a great many tender and compliance requirements. It is a baseline, not a senior credential — CySA+, CEH or CISSP come later.
Do I need Network+ first?
Not formally, but you need the knowledge. Security+ assumes you understand routing, switching, ports and protocols. If you do not, take Network+ or CCNA first — students who skip this struggle in domain 3.
How long is the certification valid?
Three years. It can be renewed through CompTIA's continuing education programme or by passing a higher-level CompTIA certification.
What are performance-based questions?
Interactive tasks at the start of the exam — configuring a firewall rule set, matching attacks to mitigations, analysing log output. They carry disproportionate weight and are the main reason well-prepared candidates still fail, so we drill them separately.
